The significance and benefits of sacrifice
Maulana Muhammad Abul Hashim
The word ‘al-Qurban’ (القربانُ) is Arabic, meaning: proximity, proximity, dedication, sacrifice, etc. In terminology-
“Qurbani is that thing by which proximity to Allah is achieved, in Sharia terminology this is the name of slaughtering an animal.”
Three words are generally used in the Holy Quran for Qurbani, namely:
1. ‘Sacrifice’ (قربانی): For example, when they both offered a sacrifice.”
(Surah Ma’idah: 27, Translation: Qanul Iman)
2. ‘Mansaq’ ( منسك): For example,
And for every nation We have appointed a sacrifice that they may mention the name of Allah over the cattle He has provided for them. (Al-Hajj: 22: 34)
“And for every nation We have appointed a sacrifice that they may mention the name of Allah over the cattle He has provided for them.”
3. ‘Nahr’ (Sacrifice): As it is mentioned in Surah Al-Kawthar,
“O beloved! We have given you abundant blessings; so pray to your Lord and sacrifice. Indeed, your enemy is the chosen one.”
“The intention is to sacrifice the body.”
Sacrifice in light of Hadith-e Nabvir:
Imam Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah narrate on the authority of Hazrat Aisha Siddiqbah Radiyallahu Ta’ala Anha that the Messenger of Allah said:
مَا عَمِلَ ابْنُ آدَمَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللهِ مِنْ إِهْرَاقِ الدَّمِ وَإِنَّهُ لَيَأْتِى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِقُرُونِهَا and “People do not do any good deed on the day of Eid al-Adha more beloved to Allah than shedding blood. This sacrifice will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, fur and hooves. And the blood is accepted by Allah before it falls on the ground. So offer it with a joyful heart.”
On the authority of Hazrat Anas Radiyallahu Ta’ala Anhu, he said:
Rasulullah Two goats with horns of mixed black and white color (Sheep) sacrificed. He slaughtered them with his blessed hands, saying Bismillah and Takbir. The narrator said, I saw the Prophet placing his blessed feet on the sides of those sheep. He said: ‘Bismillah, Allahu Akbar.’
Imam Muslim narrated on the authority of Hazrat Ayesha Radiyallahu Ta’ala Anha,
He took it and took the ram, and he made it lie down, then he slaughtered it, then he said: In the name of Allah, Allah, accept from Muhammad, the family of Muhammad, and from the nation of Muhammad.
“The Messenger of Allah () ordered that a horned goat be brought, which walks black, sits black, and sees black. Then it was brought to him for sacrifice. The Holy Prophet () said: “O Aisha! Bring the knife.” Then he said: “Sharpen it with a stone.” I did so. Then he took the knife and laid the goat down. Then he slaughtered it. Then he said, ‘Bismillah’. O Allah! Accept this on behalf of Muhammad Mustafa, the family of Muhammad Mustafa and the Ummah of Muhammad Mustafa.”
Imam Bukhari narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him),
“The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to slaughter and immolate in the prayer hall.”
Imam Muslim and Abu Dawud narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) The Prophet () said:
“A cow is sacrificed on behalf of seven and a camel is sacrificed on behalf of seven.”
The above narration, which contains the narration of Muhammad Mustafa, his family and the Ummah of Muhammad Mustafa, has been added by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi with the following words:
“O Allah! This is from me and from those of my Ummah who cannot sacrifice.”
“O Allah! This is from me and from those of my Ummah who cannot sacrifice.”
Subhan Allah! May the wealthy of the Ummah be blessed with their sacrifice. God Almighty grants it in such a way that it is from lawful earnings, with sincerity, elevated and accepted. Look at the great fortune of the poor of the Ummah, the Almighty has abolished their feeling of poverty for all time by providing the sacrifice on His behalf. So that no poor Muslim may feel inferior thinking that the wealthy have earned all the rewards of the sacrifice and we remain deprived.
جو نه بولا هم غربون کی رضا ـ ذکر اس کا ابنی حادیک کی کا اس کا ابنی حادیک
‘Make it your habit to remember the One who has not forgotten the satisfaction of the poor, make it your habit to remember Him.’
